Linux/Unix Engineer Dedicated Hosting

Short description: gain a high-level understanding of the Managed Hosting product and services portfolio as well as the derived tactical and operational objectives of the Hosting & Systems Operations department. Apply technical knowledge to advice, design, deploy and maintain system architectures based on Unix/Linux, running on physical dedicated hardware and/or VMware based virtualised solutions on SAN storage.

Key responsibilty areas:
Working within the Hosting & System Operations team in the following areas:

Systems Engineering – Optimise existing solutions based on the appropriate mix of functionality, performance, availability and cost and assist in the design of new solutions. This is done by combining a broad and deep knowledge of technology and system architectures with a solid understanding of business requirements. Occasionally act as a consultant to Customers and Global Solutions Consulting, responsible for Customer Solution Design approval within Operations. Responsible for assessing Customer Solution Design proposals providing technical advice to Team Leader or Manager regarding Operational approval.

Systems Management – Operational management and 3rd level support of internal Systems Infrastructure, Shared Hosting and Mail platforms as well as Mission Critical Customer Hosting Solutions. Responding to monitoring alerts and tickets logged by the Support Desk. Strict adherence to OLA's and SLA's and the overall incident management process and procedures. Subject to the ‘On-call’ shift (24x7 out of office hours stand-by in case of incidents/escalations) and general responsibility for the overall Customer Satisfaction related to Managed Hosting Solutions.

Security - Develop and maintain the Security Policy within Hosting & Systems Operations.

Key competences:

• Senior Unix/Linux Server Administrator and Architect (RHCE certification preferred)
• Good level knowledge of VMware ESX environments
• Senior level knowledge of SAN storage required (any industry significant vendor is ok)
• Good level knowledge of backup systems required (any industry significant vendor is ok)
• Senior level of Cisco ASA firewalls
• Good knowledge of LAN and WAN networking technology
• Good knowledge of Information Security principles and technology, high-level knowledge about ISO 27001/27002 is a plus
• Familiar with basic Project Management principles (any industry significant methodology is ok)
• Ability adhere to process as much as possible, but also to revert to improvisation mode when necessary
• Can do mentality, eye for detail
• Dutch and English language both verbal and written
• Driver’s license
   

Gestelde eisen

Education:
A degree in business administration or related discipline. (Bachelor of Science)

Experience with:
VMware ESX environment required
SAN storage required (any industry significant vendor is ok)
backup systems required (any industry significant vendor is ok)
Customer driven IT operations.

Experience working with other team members at different levels of technicality (e.g. Customers, Account Managers, Project Managers, Solutions Consultants and Jr. / Sr. Systems Engineers)
Working knowledge of the telecommunications industry, or some degree of industry experience.

This role is responsible for access and processing of confidential information and data. This includes specific (Legal Intercept) activities performed to maintain art. 13 of the Dutch Telecom Act. Therefore, a valid certificate of good behaviour is to be submitted.
